100 million Americans cannot afford legal services
According to a study by the American Bar Association, more than 100 million low- and middle-income Americans cannot afford legal representation for their basic human needs. Unable to afford representation, more and more Americans are representing themselves in court and losing.
Marcy Resnik, a partner at law firm KR, says poverty shouldn’t be a barrier to getting justice. Unfortunately, this is the case everywhere in America. On October 20 at 6:00 p.m. there will be an awards reception at 4141 NE 2nd Avenue in Miami with a large lawyer honor roll.
With strong support for equal justice through pro bono services, Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. honors attorneys who volunteer their time and skills to create a meaningful impact in someone’s life. Now more than ever, there is a huge critical need for pro bono lawyers to help close the gaps in justice that will result from the housing crisis.
For KR Law Firm, pro bono work is part of their efforts to give back to society. They believe that they do not exist in a vacuum but in a society plagued by problems. Therefore, it is part of their moral responsibility as lawyers to help resolve some of these issues.
