The Indian Federation of Corporate Lawyers (FICL) hosted a grand reception on September 6 for Law Society of England and Wales President Stephanie Boyce and International Head Mickael Laurans at their first visit to India.
PK Malhotra, former secretary of India’s Ministry of Law and Justice and head of FICL, congratulated Boyce and Laurans. FICL CEO Ashok Sharma delivered a welcome speech and briefly discussed the current activities of the organization.
Boyce is the sixth woman, first black office holder, first person of color and second in-house counsel in 50 years to serve as president of the Law Society. She was admitted as a barrister in 2002 and has extensive experience in corporate governance, regulatory frameworks and professional regulation.
In his remarks, Boyce highlighted the Law Society’s role in securing access to justice and the various initiatives it has taken. Laurans explained how the opening of the Indian legal market will benefit legal professionals in India and the UK.
Following the keynote, discussions on a variety of topics took place between visiting delegates and in-house counsel in attendance, followed by afternoon tea and lively interactions.
